WHO WE ARE
Christ Congregational Church, United Church of Christ.
Located in Brockton, Massachusetts. Our Congregation is a diverse group with a variety of religious backgrounds and traditions. Some families grew up within this church. Others join us from other UCC or Congregational churches, while others come to us from very different faith traditions. We all come together to worship God and do the work of our Lord Jesus Christ.
WE ARE IN COVENANT with the United Church of Christ (UCC) Each congregation of the UCC is self-governing and determines its own programs and priorities. The motto of the United Church of Christ is "That they all might be one." This was Jesus' prayer for unity among His followers. Visit the United Church of Christ's website (www.ucc.org) for more information about the mission and the message of the UCC.
We participate in union with the Pilgrim Association, within the Southeast Area of the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ. For more information about the Massachusetts Conference, visit their website at www.macucc.org.
WE ARE COMMITTED to following Christ, to work in the community and the world in Christ's name, and that everyone must be welcomed in the church. We welcome people from diverse backgrounds to join us in church membership, we welcome all persons to the Communion Table, including children and we welcome every person to join us in working projects as well as the times when we just enjoy each other's company. We conduct new member classes as needed for those who are interested in membership. Please speak with one of our pastors or a Deacon.
WE BELIEVE that the head of the Church is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. The members of the Church are responsible for its Work and Mission. We are community based and are a participating member in the Brockton Interfaith Community.
WE ENCOURAGE individuals to follow their passions and take leadership roles in the committees and activities that are of interest to them. Our activities include, but not are not limited to, Worship, Christian Education, Missions, Stewardship, Music, Fellowship, and SHALOM Ministries.
WE INVITE you to come by for a visit, worship with us and join with us for a time of fellowship.
Christ Congregational Church, UCC
In May 1980 four congregational churches in Brockton, Massachusetts
consolidated and became Christ Congregational Church, UCC. The four churches were the First Parish Church, Porter Congregational Church, South Congregational Church and Waldo Congregational Church. Due to its size, location and adaptability the Porter Church building at 33 North Main Street was chosen as the site of the new consolidated church.
After several years of studies and two and a half years of planning, designing and building, Christ Congregational Church, UCC relocated to 1350 Pleasant Street, Brockton on Easter Sunday 1995.
With a growing church family and increasing numbers in the Church School an addition was built and the Allen E. & Maxine W. Fisher Educational Wing was dedicated on September 17, 2000.
In May of 2005 Christ Congregational Church, UCC celebrated a 25th anniversary with great joy and hope for the future.
The United Church Of Christ
www.ucc.org
Formed June 25, 1957, by the union of the Evangelical and Reformed Church and The General Council of the Congregational Christian Churches of the United States in order to express more fully the oneness in Christ of the churches composing it, to make more effective their common witness in Him, and to serve His kingdom in this world.
The United Church of Christ acknowledges as its sole Head, Jesus Christ, Son of God and Savior. It acknowledges as kindred in Christ all who share in this confession. It looks to the Word of God in the Scriptures, and to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, to prosper its creative and redemptive work in the world. It claims as its own the faith of the historic Church expressed in the ancient creeds and reclaimed in the basic insights of the Protestant Reformers. It affirms the responsibility of the Church in each generation to make this faith its own in reality of worship, in honesty of thought and expression, and in purity of heart before God. In accordance with the teachings of our Lord and the practice prevailing among evangelical Christians, it recognizes two sacraments: Baptism and the Lord's Supper or Holy Communion.
